CARLESS HIKES
The irony of driving a petroleum guzzling steel death machine to the trailhead to enjoy the wonders of mother nature is not lost on me. Usually, it's necessary, but sometimes, amazingly, it's not! For about six months, I was without a vehicle in Oakland, which is usually isn't a problem, when it comes to getting to work and going about one's daily business. Public transportation is almost adequate, and the addition of a bicycle helps significantly. But when it comes to reaching most trail heads (and hauling drum sets around) a motor car becomes imperative. But in Oakland, with it's plethora of hills and trails practically in our back yard, and some decent transit options as well, I was able to find some ways for getting in the hike zone for times when I have no vehicle, or don't feel like burning any fossil fuel that day. On this page, I will compile a list of the "carless" hikes, as they are published.
1. ORINDA TO ROCKRIDGE 2017
2. GRIZZLY PEAK / CHAPARRAL PEAK / VOLLMER PEAK
3. ORINDA TO ROCKRIDGE 2020
4. BRIONES PEAKS LOOP
